The truck's route in Bodrum
The crew has drilled on housing and hotel plots across the peninsula, in Ortakent, Yahşi, Konacık and Göltürkbükü among others, and at Kazıklı and Boğaziçi in Milas. What makes drilling hard in Bodrum is access as much as rock. Sloping plots, narrow village roads and stone walls decide where the truck can get in. Otto Mühendislik has two truck-mounted rigs, the smaller one is planned for a narrow gate, and where no truck can enter the portable core drill does the work. If something has to be cleared, it is set out in writing on the day of the site visit.
What sets the price
The price of drilling is set by the number of boreholes, the depth of each one and the type of ground. Coring advances more slowly in rock than in soil, and that changes the number of days on site. How the rig gets onto the plot and the preparation of the area also go into the quote. Otto Mühendislik writes these items after seeing the plot, and when drilling is part of a wider programme it sits in the same quote as the seismic and laboratory items.
A record for every borehole
On drilling day the depth and date of every borehole are written down, the metre each core came from is marked on the box, and the borehole is recorded in photos and video. That record goes into the report's appendix. Months later, when the municipality or the structural engineer asks which borehole a value came from, the answer is on the box and in the report.
